MEXICO CITY – Authorities reported on Thursday that the mutilated remains of six individuals were discovered in a car in southern Mexico, the latest grisly find in a country riven by gang-related violence.

Prosecutors said the remains were discovered in plastic bags inside a vehicle in Chilapa, Guerrero, without verifying claims that the decapitated heads were placed on the top.

In recent years, discoveries of mutilated bodies left in public or hanging from bridges have grown in Mexico as criminal groups strive to scare their competitors.
