As Russian forces focus their fire on cities and captive populations in Ukraine’s almost month-long incursion, President Joe Biden has added a visit to Poland to his trip to Europe this week for urgent consultations with NATO and European partners.
Biden will go to Brussels first, then to Poland to speak with authorities, said White press secretary Jen Psaki in a late-night statement.
Poland is an important ally in the Ukraine issue. It has taken in more people escaping the Ukraine war — more than 2 million — than any other nation in the midst of Europe’s worst refugee crisis in decades.
On Saturday, Biden will go to Warsaw for a bilateral meeting with President Andrzej Duda. According to Psaki, Biden will discuss how the US and its allies are responding to “the humanitarian and human rights tragedy that Russia’s unlawful and unprovoked aggression on Ukraine has wrought.”
