MOSCOW, Russian Federation (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin criticised Kyiv for bungled civilian evacuations from the important Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, which is surrounded by Russian military, in a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Kremlin.
Putin “raised attention to the fact that Kyiv still does not fulfil agreements reached on this critical humanitarian crisis,” the Kremlin said in a statement, after two deals to evacuate Mariupol in south-eastern Ukraine fell through owing to claims of ceasefire breaches.
Despite a cease-fire declaration, Putin stated on Saturday that “Ukrainian nationalists” prevented residents and international visitors from leaving Mariupol and neighbouring Volnovakha.
