India’s women’s team defeats Pakistan in the inaugural World Cup match.

India defeated Pakistan by 107 runs in their Women’s Cricket World Cup match at Mount Maunganui on Sunday, as a record partnership between Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana overcame a mid-innings slump.

In the first encounter between Asian rivals since India’s 2017 World Cup victory, Pakistan were all out for 137 in the 43rd over in response to India’s 244 for seven.

Pakistan thought they had the upper hand when they had India for six for 114 in the 34th over.

With a World Cup-record 122-run seventh-wicket stand, Vastrakar and Rana salvaged the innings, bringing the total to 244 for seven.

Vastrakar, the contest’s player of the match, hammered 67 off 59 deliveries before being bowled in the penultimate over by Fatima Sana, while Rana remained unbeaten on 53 off 48 deliveries.

Despite India’s rout, skipper Mithali Raj said that the team still has a long way to go if it wants to make the playoffs.
