On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) stopped the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from holding local body elections in Islamabad.
During the hearing, the court stated that the judgement was made in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Ordinance.
The court also demanded that the federal government explain why it abolished the Local Government Act and enacted an ordinance.
It should be noted that local government elections were set to take place on April 15 in the federal capital using electronic voting machines (EVMs).
ECP had requested 3900 electronic voting devices from the federal government for the 2018 elections.
