The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order disqualifying Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur’s brother Umar Amin Gandapur for violation of the code of conduct in connection with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) local government polls has been suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
During the hearing, the plaintiff’s counsel contended that the election commission issued the judgement without following correct procedure since only a fine of Rs50,000 may be levied after a summary inquiry and further action can be taken only if the code of conduct is breached again.
The lawyer further claimed that the plaintiff’s brother, who is also a federal minister, was fined while Umar Amin was disqualified for violating the code of conduct.
Previously, the commission deemed Umar Amin Gandapur unqualified for the position of Dera city mayor and prevented him from campaigning in the region.
On the other side, the ECP revoked Ali Amin Gandapur’s restriction on entering Dera Ismail Khan.
