When it came to the shortest format of the game in 2021, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman controlled the roost. Rizwan scored 1326 runs in only 29 matches, averaging 73.66 and striking at a rate of 134.89. Apart from his batsmanship, he remained as reliable as ever behind the wickets, helping Pakistan reach the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, where he finished as the third-highest run-scorer.
Early in the year, he also hit his first T20I century against South Africa in Lahore, and he finished the year on a high note with a superb 87 against the West Indies in Karachi. Pakistan will be hoping that Rizwan continues in the same spirit in the next T20 World Cup.
Despite the fact that chasing 152 runs was simple on paper, Pakistan faced the weight of history in their T20 World Cup match against India. The challenge was made much more difficult by the presence of players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami in the opposing assault. However, as was usually often the case in 2021, Rizwan and his skipper Babar Azam guaranteed a historic triumph that would be remembered for years to come in Pakistan cricket history.
